Happy 250th Birthday, U.S.A.!
April is National Poetry Month, and the Grand Rapids Arts Council is getting ready for its 6th annual poetry celebration at the newly painted G.R. Town Hall. This year’s themes are:
***America the Beautiful
***Patriotism
***Independence
We’ll spend time writing the ever popular “Zip Code Poems”, thanks to Chuck Thomas! We will write together, sharing, and responding to meaningful American artifacts/written as well as objects. Whether you’ve been writing for years or just enjoy a good poem, you’re welcome to join us. Bring something you’ve written—or a favorite poem/song to read aloud!
Write a poem inspired by the themes and email it to grandrapidsartscouncil@gmail.com, by Monday, April 6th at midnight.
Be sure to include your name & whether you’re a Student (6–12) or Adult.
Past poetry teachers will judge submissions and award 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes (with cash awards) Winners will have the chance to read their poems at the event if able to attend.
Come out, share your voice, and celebrate creativity with our community. We can’t wait to hear what you’ve been writing!
